Why I started O(Log n) labs?
I have been building products for more than a decade. I come from the time before the "cloud" was a thing, and now we have SaaS unicorns creating millions of dollars worth of value every day.
It's 2024, and there are thousands of SaaS companies and millions of service businesses. So the only question is: Why start a company now - What changed?
The best reading material that comes closest to explaining in layperson's terms is this (click here to read).
TLDR version: Outcome-as-a-Service (OaaS) is a business model that leverages AI to deliver specific, tangible outcomes directly to customers, bypassing the need for traditional software and service management. Instead of providing tools or platforms requiring user intervention and management, OaaS delivers the result that the user desires, fully automated by AI.
It is all possible because of the overall progress made in Generative AI space. From simple cool demos at the beginning of 2023, it has evolved to a state where companies are beginning to see measurable benefits from Gen AI. These benefits range from a simple increase in productivity to improved customer experiences that result in revenue growth.
According to recent reports, despite so much progress, only about 5% of GenAI projects and products lead to significant monetization. Infact, some estimates claim that 85% of the time, companies are investing in GenAI projects without a clear understanding of how they will use the technology to create business value. And the reason for that is straightforward - AI alone is not the solution! In many cases, it's a pivotal but only a tiny part of the most optimized solution to a well-defined problem.
This is the problem we are going after at O(Log n) Labs. The problem is defining the business goal well and then designing a technology solution that delivers the outcome required to achieve that goal. Where most people are trying to sell a fancy AI SaaS product that "sort of automates" a small part of a single team, We want to deliver tangible and measurable improvement to companies' bottom lines. Technology is supposed to be a profit center, and these AI-driven outcomes are well-positioned to make it one. Once the problem statement is well defined, we take an iterative approach to designing, executing, and bringing the solution to production. The solution can range from simple automation in an Excel sheet or existing tools/products to increase productivity or revenue to a fully automated AI product doing a piece of work for you.
Another dimension of the decision was why this is the right time to start an Outcome as a service company. For me, the answer is straightforward. I have been at the intersection of product, technology, and growth for as long as I can remember and have designed several solutions that have helped companies in their zero-to-one journey. I am more obsessed with GTMs, technology-led growth, end-user experience, and creating business value than any language/tool/technology/framework/database/cloud service. So, my lens has always been outcome and value first.
I have been experimenting with Gen AI since the beginning of 2023, and for the first time, I can see tangible results that can create real business value beyond writing a few copies and generating a few memes. Gen AI offerings have seen a meteoric upgrade. And I am not only talking about the capabilities of the LLMs. Taking AI to production has become much easier in comparison because of tons of open source and enterprise offerings around it. Even experimenting with AI is relatively easy now. The AI models and ecosystem have seen a massive upgrade and continue to show promise in different domains. If I have to draw a parallel, Gen AI has grown from a toddler to a 10-year-old kid. Imagine what will happen when this kid comes of age!
Now that I have answered the "what" and "why," you can schedule a call with me to figure out the " how"! (click here).
This first conversation will be all about figuring out the problem statement and I am already looking forward to it :)
